Useful Information

The Hôtel du Parlement is open to the public year-round. It is located at 1045 rue des Parlementaires, in the parliamentary precincts, near Vieux-Québec. Visitors can take guided and self-guided tours of the building and attend parliamentary proceedings.

Access to the Hôtel du Parlement

  • Access to the Hôtel du Parlement and the Library is free.
  • Guided tours inside and outside the Hôtel du Parlement and the exhibits open to the public are also free.
  • Visitors can access the Hôtel du Parlement and the Library through the main door of the reception pavilion, which also accommodates mobility-impaired persons.
  • A piece of photo identification (passport, driver’s licence, etc.) is required to access all the parliament buildings.

Opening Hours

  • Monday to Friday: 8:30 a.m. à 4:30 p.m.
  • Saturday: 9:30 a.m. à 4:30 p.m.
  • Sunday: Closed

Security

To enter the Assemblée nationale, you must pass through security screening. You must also show photo ID when registering.

Security screening helps ensure that visitors do not have any prohibited weapons or objects that could compromise people’s safety. Before your visit, please familiarize yourself with the list of weapons and objects that are prohibited at the Assemblée nationale.

Prohibited weapons

A prohibited weapon is a weapon that it is illegal to possess under the Criminal Code. Possession of a prohibited weapon may constitute a criminal offence. Some examples of prohibited weapons are as follows:

  • Brass knuckles;
  • Pepper spray;
  • Card knives;
  • Spiked wristbands;
  • Firearms;
  • Ammunition;
  • Conducted energy weapons;
  • Switchblades;
  • Martial arts weapons or devices;
  • Explosive devices.

This list is not exhaustive. If in doubt, please refer to the complete list of these items, which can be found in the Regulations Prescribing Certain Firearms and Other Weapons, Components and Parts of Weapons, Accessories, Cartridge Magazines, Ammunition and Projectiles as Prohibited or Restricted (DORS 98-462).

Prohibited Objects

For security reasons, a number of objects are prohibited at the Assemblée nationale. These objects may be confiscated when you go through security:

  • Laser pointer;
  • Whistle;
  • Drone;
  • Pointed objects (knitting needles, letter openers);
  • Slingshots;
  • Replica weapons;
  • Aerosols;
  • Fireworks;
  • Knives of any size;
  • Razors and knives with retractable blades;
  • Tools;
  • Selfie sticks;
  • Flammable or harmful substances;
  • Alcoholic beverages;
  • Illegal drugs;
  • Drug paraphernalia.

The Assemblée nationale reserves the right to modify this list.

Transportation

  • By city bus: Routes 3, 11, 800 and 801 run past the Hôtel du Parlement.

For more information on bus transportation in the city of Québec, visit the website of the Réseau de transport de la Capitale (French only).

  • By car: Parking is available at the Convention Centre (Centre des congrès), the Édifice Marie-Guyart and the Édifice H.
  • There is no public parking at the Hôtel du Parlement.
