Legislative Assembly of Ontario

A brief history

The National Assembly of Québec and the Legislative Assembly of Ontario signed an interparliamentary co-operation agreement in 1991, thus creating the Ontario-Québec Parliamentary Association (OQPA). The OQPA meets once a year, alternating between Ontario and Québec. It examines such issues as workforce mobility, farm insurance and financing programs, and relations with aboriginal peoples. The resulting resolutions are forwarded to the government bodies concerned.

Mélissa Morin

On August 28, 2022, the Lieutenant-Governor dissolved the National Assembly. The call for an election ended the 42nd Legislature.

When a legislature is dissolved, MNAs, whose terms coincide with the duration of the legislature, cease to hold office. The President and Vice-president stay in office until they are replaced or reappointed by the new Assembly.
