A Brief History

In 1979, The National Assembly of Québec (NAQ) and the Parliament of the Federation of Wallonia-Brussels (PFWB) signed a joint interparliamentary cooperation agreement (PDF, 889 KB) (in French) creating the Parliament of the Federation Wallonia-Brussels–National Assembly of Québec Joint Committee. The agreement was renewed in 2002.

The Members who are part of the Joint Committee generally meet once a year, alternating between Québec City and Brussels. The resolutions adopted by the Members at these meetings include recommendations for their respective governments.

Since its creation, the Joint Committee has concentrated mainly on questions concerning culture, education, health and social affairs.

On August 28, 2022, the Lieutenant-Governor dissolved the National Assembly. The call for an election ended the 42nd Legislature.

When a legislature is dissolved, MNAs, whose terms coincide with the duration of the legislature, cease to hold office. The President and Vice-president stay in office until they are replaced or reappointed by the new Assembly.
