A Brief History

In 2003, The National Assembly of Québec and the Parliament of Wallonia signed a joint interparliamentary cooperation agreement (PDF, 621 KB) (in French) creating the Parliament of Wallonia–National Assembly of Québec Joint Committee.

The parliamentarians who are part of the Joint Committee generally meet once a year, alternating between Québec City and Namur. The resolutions adopted by the parliamentarians at these meetings include recommendations for their respective governments.

Since its creation, the Joint Committee has concentrated mainly on questions concerning land use planning, economy, environment and employment.

On August 28, 2022, the Lieutenant-Governor dissolved the National Assembly. The call for an election ended the 42nd Legislature.

When a legislature is dissolved, MNAs, whose terms coincide with the duration of the legislature, cease to hold office. The President and Vice-president stay in office until they are replaced or reappointed by the new Assembly.
