A Brief History
The Assemblée nationale du Québec has been a member of the Assemblée Parlementaire de la Francophonie (APF) since 1975. It chaired the organization from 1993 to 1995, 2001 to 2003, 2009 to 2011 and 2017 to 2019.
Besides attending all annual APF meetings, the Assemblée nationale participates in the work of the four standing committees, the Network of Women Parliamentarians and the Parliamentary Network for the Fight against HIV/AIDS. It has been a member of the APF Bureau since joining the organization in 1975.
The APF comprises 88 parliaments and interparliamentary organizations grouped according to the following four regions: Africa, America, Asia-Pacific and Europe. The Assemblée nationale has hosted the secretariat of the Americas Region since 1992.
The Québec Branch of the APF fosters ties with member parliaments from all over the French-speaking world.
