Petition:
Opposition to the closure of Riverdale High School

Petition text

CONSIDERING THAT Riverdale High School has been a pillar of the English-speaking community since 1965;

CONSIDERING THAT Riverdale High School is a focal point for sports, cultural and fundraising activities of the English-speaking community and enjoys a central place in the spirit and heart of the said community;

CONSIDERING the desire of the Minister of Education and Higher Education to proceed with the closing of the school without notice or consultation with the school board and residents of the West Island;

CONSIDERING THAT the closure of Riverdale High School jeopardizes the accessibility of quality programs for young Anglophones on the West Island of Montreal, or even their academic path for some of them;

CONSIDERING the decision made by the Minister of Education and Higher Education and considering that several solutions could have been found, in collaboration with teachers and parents of students enrolled;

CONSIDERING the indignation of students and parents;

We, the undersigned, ask the Government of Québec to reconsider the decision to close Riverdale High School without alternative, permanent, and voluntary solutions on both sides being found. We ask the Government to consider the situation of several hundred students whose academic path will be affected by this decision and call upon the Government to collaborate with the parents and the community at large in seeking solutions for the good of both French- and English-speaking young people.
