Petition:
Modification of Bill 60 concerning the ban on wearing religious symbols

Petition text

CONSIDERING THAT the equality of  all Quebecers needs to be protected and that elected officials have the mandate to protect and preserve the rights of all citizens of Quebec, regardless of their language, culture or religious beliefs;

CONSIDERING THAT all citizens of Quebec are proud to be part of an inclusive society that is enriched by the diversity of ethnocultural minorities;

CONSIDERING THAT gender equality already exists and that it is protected under the Quebec Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms since its enactment in 1975;

CONSIDERING THAT we expect efficiency in our governmental services without discrimination against people's religious beliefs;

CONSIDERING THAT it is agreed and understood that citizens want to be able to visually identify the government employee by whom they are served;

CONSIDERING THAT we teach our children that all citizens are equal, regardless of the religious symbol they wish to wear;

We, the undersigned, ask the National Assembly to ensure that there be no restrictions on the wearing of religious symbols that do not cover people's faces and to act in a manner so as to protect the individual rights of all citizens.
