Petition:
Shelter for homeless people in the Ahuntsic-Cartierville borough
Petition text
WHEREAS the Société de développement social (SDS), the CIUSSS du Nord-de-l'Île-de-Montréal and the CIUSSS du Centre-Sud-de-l'Île-de-Montréal, with the support of the Ville de Montréal, announced on June 18, 2024 the opening in mid-August of a new emergency shelter for people experiencing homelessness (Centre Bois-de-Boulogne) in the borough of Ahuntsic-Cartierville;
WHEREAS the Centre Bois-de-Boulogne will be very close to vulnerable people such as children and seniors (CPE Château de Grand-mère’s Bois-de-Boulogne location and Centre d'hébergement Saint-Joseph-de-la-Providence are less than 100 metres away and François-de-Laval elementary school is 600 metres away) and that it may compromise their safety;
WHEREAS examples very recently covered by the media in downtown Montréal and in the Saint-Henri district clearly demonstrate, in our opinion, that such cohabitation is impossible due to the drug addiction and mental health issues that are unfortunately highly prevalent among the clientele of such a resource;
We, the undersigned, ask the Québec government to intervene and reconsider the location chosen for the opening of a new emergency shelter for homeless people in the Ahuntsic-Cartierville district.
